Komazawa University (pictured left) and Varian Medical Systems have announced a new advanced radiation therapy education center in Japan. Located on the Komazawa campus in Tokyo, the education center is equipped with a Varian TrueBeam medical linear accelerator and offers hands-on educational courses for medical professionals and students on the planning and delivery of advanced radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer.
The goal of the educational courses is to enhance the knowledge and skills of health professionals on the delivery of radiation therapy using Varian technology, as well as establish standards for radiation therapy education at Komazawa University. The educational courses will use the TrueBeam system integrated with the company’s suite of oncology and radiation therapy software, including Eclipse treatment planning system, and ARIA oncology information system.
“With the increasing number of cancer cases in Japan, it is critical to increase the number of skilled professionals who can deliver radiation therapy treatments at a high standard,” said Masao Hoshina, Professor at Faculty of Health Science. “By collaborating with Varian on this radiotherapy education center, we have the opportunity to expand the pool of qualified professionals and maximize the use of this important technology in the fight against cancer.”
“We are honored to collaborate with Komazawa University on this new advanced radiotherapy education center,” said Mitchell Silong, managing director Oncology Systems Japan at Varian. “The goal of the center is to help medical professionals enhance patient care with expanded educational programs on the use of radiotherapy and radiosurgery in the treatment of cancer.”
Varian’s TrueBeam family of medical linear accelerators incorporate numerous technical innovations that dynamically synchronize imaging, patient positioning, motion management, and treatment delivery during a radiation therapy or radiosurgery procedure.Back To Top
