Ronald Chen, MD, MPH, has been named the Brandmeyer Chair and Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, clinical service chief at The University of Kansas Health System and associate director for Health Equity at The University of Kansas Cancer Center, effective October 31, 2019.
Dr. Chen comes from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he served as the radiation oncology program director and associate chair for education and associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
“Dr. Chen is an exceptional physician-scientist, serving as the principal investigator or co- principal investigator of many ongoing national and international clinical trials in prostate, bladder and testicular cancers,” said Roy Jensen, MD, director of KU Cancer Center. “He brings tremendous expertise and experience to our cancer center and we are thrilled to have his leadership.”
A leading genitourinary radiation oncologist and a renowned health services researcher, Dr. Chen previously served as co-director of the Cancer Care Quality Training Program (T32), director of the Comparative Effectiveness Research Program and associate director for education at the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and co-director of the Genitourinary Cancers Multidisciplinary Program.
Dr. Chen has a well-funded research program that focuses on inter-related health services research themes of comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness, quality of care and quality of life. Dr. Chen has published more than 160 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including top journals such as JAMA, JAMA Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has authored many national guidelines on the treatment of prostate cancer.
A native of Kansas, Dr. Chen earned a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry from the University of Kansas. He earned a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency and served as chief resident at the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program in Boston.Back To Top
